Love God’s Word. Develop Christian Character. Impact the World for Christ.
Forming hearts and minds through faithful partnership between home and school.
Signal Mountain Christian School (SMCS) partners with Christian families by serving as an extension of the home—helping parents train children to love God’s Word, develop Christlike character, and grow into thoughtful, faithful individuals prepared to impact the world for Christ.
K–5 Elementary School
Cultivating wisdom, virtue, and a lasting love of learning in the early years.
At SMCS, rich, meaningful learning and spiritual formation are thoughtfully woven together in an intimate, hands-on environment. Guided by Charlotte Mason principles, we emphasize living books, careful observation, narration, and intentional habit formation. Through the steady practice of habits such as attention, diligence, kindness, and responsibility, children grow in both wisdom and character while developing a genuine love of learning. Parents are encouraged to review lessons daily with their children, creating a shared language and deeper connection with the curriculum.
Our Charlotte Mason Influence
An education shaped by truth, beauty, and the formation of good habits.
Signal Mountain Christian School is shaped by the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason, which views children as whole persons created in the image of God—capable of deep thought, meaningful relationships, and joyful learning.
About Our School
Central to this approach is habit training. Rather than relying on constant correction or external rewards, teachers gently and consistently guide students in forming habits such as attention, obedience, truthfulness, kindness, and perseverance. These habits foster self-discipline, confidence, and freedom—equipping children for both learning and life.
Academically, students engage with rich “living” books, narration, nature study, and thoughtful discussion. Learning is relational and reflective, not rushed. Parents play a vital role by reviewing lessons at home, reinforcing habits, and sharing in their child’s discoveries—strengthening both intimacy with the curriculum and the partnership between home and school.
We believe education is an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life—and when parents and teachers walk together with purpose, children’s hearts and minds are formed for a lifetime of faithful learning.
Our Campus
A place ordered for learning, reflection, and delight in God’s creation.
Our Learning Houses are intentionally designed to feel like home, fostering warmth, belonging, and security. Our wooded campus further extends the classroom through outdoor lessons, nature studies, student hikes, and imaginative free play—supporting habits of attentiveness, wonder, and thoughtful engagement with God’s creation.
Student Experience
Attentive teaching, meaningful work, and steady guidance for every child.
With small class sizes and shorter school days, children are truly known and carefully guided. Our degreed teachers pray for their students, model joyful faith, and intentionally shepherd each child’s spiritual, intellectual, and personal growth. Lessons are purposeful and unhurried, allowing space for reflection, discussion, and the steady formation of lifelong habits—both at school and at home.
