History of the School
In the fall of 1996, six families from Wayside Presbyterian Church met to discuss their common desire to provide a Christian education for their children. Together they prayed that God would make it unmistakably clear to them if He wanted a new school to be formed and, if so, that He would lead them to adopt a philosophy, structure and organization which would glorify Him.
We firmly believe it was God’s will that Signal Mountain Christian School (“SMCS”) be formed. The great success SMCS has enjoyed thus far is due solely to God’s grace and blessing.
Prior to beginning operation, the organizational committee spent 1_ years studying other Christian and private secular schools, agreeing upon a philosophy, approach, style and structure, hiring staff and preparing to open. SMCS opened in September 1998 with a kindergarten and 1st grade. In 2001 it became a full elementary school (K—5th).
SMCS is now in its 10th year of operation. The school began as a ministry of Wayside Presbyterian Church. However, in 2005, it became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit and tax exempt organization.
